Weddings
The Sussex String Quartet will greatly enhance the atmosphere and create that exquisite, romantic touch for your special day. We have played at hundreds of civil and religious wedding ceremonies over the years and are happy to offer advice on all aspects of the musical accompaniment to your wedding, including appropriate music and logistics. We will always liaise with the Registrar, Toastmaster or Clergy before the ceremony to ensure that the musical side of things runs smoothly. Our professionalism and attention to detail are second to none.
At civil ceremonies we usually perform whilst guests assemble 20-30 minutes before the start of the ceremony.
We then play for the entrance of the bride, during the signing of the register and at the end of the ceremony.
Very often the music chosen for these occasions will be of the classical variety, but we will play music of any genre and will also be pleased to arrange something which is not already on our extensive repertoire list.
Listed below are some suggestions for repertoire:
Before the ceremony
A selection of Baroque/Classical favourites Mozart - Divertimenti
Vivaldi - The Four Seasons
Handel - Music for the Royal Fireworks
Bach - Brandenburg Concerti
Entrance of the bride
Handel - The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba The Prince of Denmark's March
Wagner - Bridal March from Lohengrin Pachelbel - Canon
Purcell - Trumpet Tune
During the signing of the register
Handel - Air from the Water Music
Vivaldi - Largo from Winter (Four Seasons)
Fauré - Pavane
Elgar - Chanson de Matin, Salut d'Amour
Bach - Air on a G String
Delibes - Flower Duet from Lakme
This is often a good point at which to include a favourite or significant tune!
On greeting the newly-weds
Mendelssohn - Wedding March
Dubois - Toccata
Handel - Hornpipe from the Water Music
The theme tune to 'Mission Impossible' is occasionally requested!
Religious/Church Ceremonies
We would suggest similar repertoire to the above but are also pleased to accompany hymns, arrangements of which are free of charge.
Further suggestions are:
Bach - Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring,
Bach - Sheep May Safely Graze
Goodall - The Lord is My Shepherd
(Vicar of Dibley theme tune)
Schubert - Ave Maria
Entrance of Bride - Pachelbel's Canon
